Overview

FIAT brings European fun and style to US shores with the energetic and versatile four-door 500L. Equipped with a sprightly turbocharged engine and a wealth of comfort, entertainment, and safety features, the 500L can do everything for everyone.

The Perfect Ride for…

The Urban Adventurer. You want to enjoy head-turning style on the outside and modern comfort on the inside. You want to drive nimbly but efficiently. You want to stay connected, but you also need an escape plan. You believe less is more, but you also want enough legroom for all of your friends (not to mention enough cargo room for all of their stuff). You want all this, and you want it starting at $22,250.* You want the 2020 FIAT 500L.

Drive and Handling

FIAT offers the 2020 500L in four diverse trim levels: Pop, Trekking, Urbana, and Lounge. However, all four levels come standard with a tiger under the hood. The 1.4-liter MultiAir® turbocharged powertrain is more than enough for the compact body, and the inline-four MultiAir engine uses hydraulically actuated variable valve timing (VVT) technology to control the air intake timing more precisely. This technology was originally developed by Fiat Powertrain Technologies and is now quite common throughout the automotive world. It’s a new paradigm in gasoline engine efficiency.

Thanks to the smart design of the 500L powertrain, drivers will enjoy a more responsive output when they want it, making it easy to get going from a stop or overtake slower vehicles on the road. That shows up as 160 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque—quite impressive for a 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine. And of course, that power doesn’t come at the cost of fuel economy. The 2020 500L gets an EPA-estimated 30 mpg on the highway,** and a 13.2-gallon fuel tank means you can fill up and enjoy up to 396 miles of driving range.

Key Features

Inner Beauty

The interior of the 500L offers just as much style and thoughtfulness as the exterior. The available dual-pane power sunroof (the largest in its class) floods the cabin with natural light during the day, while ambient LED lighting options provide a crisp and colorful glow at night in an array of vibrant hues. Available leather-trimmed buckets seats offer enough room for a comfortable party of five with as much as 40” of legroom in the front and 36.7” in the rear and a deceptive total passenger interior volume of 98.8 cubic feet. Oh, and don’t forget the luggage. The 2020 500L offers best-in-class cargo room with multiple configurations to fit all your oddly-shaped gear.

Premium Connectivity

Drivers and passengers alike will enjoy the latest in infotainment features inside the 2020 500L. The latest version of Uconnect® offers the ability to stream seemingly limitless content from devices or the internet using integrated Bluetooth® or USB connections. Control all of these features with Uconnect Voice Command, convenient controls on the leather-wrapped steering wheel, or on the vivid 7-inch full-color touchscreen. And if you’re serious about all of the music you’ll stream in the 500L, then you can upgrade to the Trekking, Urbana, or Lounge trim levels that both come standard with BeatsAudio™ Premium Sound Systems. BeatsAudio provides high-definition sound on six premium speakers and an 8-inch dual voice coil subwoofer, all powered by an eight-channel 368-watt amplifier and the BeatsAudio Digital Sound Processing algorithm.

Modern Safety

Even though the brand is known as a classic, the 2020 500L offers some of the latest in cutting-edge car safety features. The steel safety frame and an arsenal of airbags work together to protect all passengers from every direction in the event of an accident, but that might be unnecessary considering the computer-driven safety tech like Electronic Stability Control, which automatically adjusts throttling and braking to individual wheels to maintain directional control in tricky driving conditions. When moving in reverse, the standard ParkView® Rear Back Up Camera displays a wide-angle view from behind the vehicle on the Uconnect touchscreen, and the ParkSense® Rear Park Assist System uses sensors to detect incoming pedestrians or other obstacles and alerts the driver to avoid potential collisions.

Alternative Options

FIAT offers several variations on a theme of European style and energy. If you’re looking for a drop-top roadster for your next holiday, good for nimbly racing down curvy country roads (in Italy and elsewhere), you should try the iconic FIAT 124 Spyder, which combines classic style and modern engineering. If you want more power and versatility for la dolce vita, FIAT also offers a crossover: the 500X. The 500X is available with a 2.4-liter engine called the Tigershark®, which delivers up to 180 hp and 175 lb-ft of torque.
